PROTOTYPE/DESIGN SAMPLE CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER MOTORCYCLE
Customer: Accessories manufacturer/automotive, motorcycles
Industry: Automotive
Technology: innovatiQ TiQ 2 Plus - industrial 3D printer
Material: PLA
Introduction/Challenge
The clutch slave cylinder (also known as the slave cylinder) on a motorcycle is a hydraulic component that is a central element of the clutch actuation system. It is located on the transmission housing, usually on the side with a compact design and connection for the hydraulic line. A supplier to a motorcycle manufacturer was faced with the challenge of having to produce pre-series models and design samples of the clutch slave cylinder in various technical and design versions for its customer for new motorcycles currently under development.
SolutionThe decision was made to manufacture the production samples and prototypes using the FDM process with a TiQ 2 Plus 3D printer from innovatiQ. The rapid creation of various design and functional examples for coordination on site was a significant factor in speeding up the coordination process with the customer.
- Design freedom: Ideal topological adaptation to the installation situation
- Interface for assembly: integrated holes and reinforcements for screws or rivets
- Agility: Changes to the CAD model can be immediately implemented in new print jobs → Iteration time reduced from weeks to a few days
Result
By using the FDM process, the manufacturer is able to coordinate the development and pre-series production process much more efficiently and promptly, thereby shortening the entire development process.
Conclusion
The in-house production of prototypes and product samples on the industrial 3D printer TiQ 2 Plus from innovatiQ brings enormous benefits:
- Time & cost savings
- Fast iteration for design changes
- Evaluable coordination samples
