PUMP DRIVE HOUSING

Customer: Mechanical engineering company (fixture construction)
Industry: MACHINE CONSTRUCTION
Technology: innovatiQ TiQ 2 - industrial 3D printer
Material: PA-CF (carbon fiber reinforced polyamide)

Introduction/Challenge

A PUMP DRIVE HOUSING was required to accommodate the components of a small liquid pump in special machine construction, initially as a prototype and then in small quantities. The housing serves to mechanically fix the shaft, bearings and seal, protects the drive unit and enables the connection of hoses or pipes.

Conventional production (milling, casting) would be time-consuming, cost-intensive and hardly economical for individual pieces or short-term replacements, and quick adjustments to geometry or interfaces are also difficult to implement.

The pump drive housing manufactured using the FDM process on the innovatiQ TiQ 2 is an example of how additive manufacturing brings considerable added value to special machine construction: faster development, lower costs, flexible adaptation and a realistic prototype that can already be tested close to its function.

Solution

The mechanical engineering company uses the Tiq 2 Plus from innovatiQ to manufacture the pump drive housing using the FDM process:

  • Complex geometries with channels, attachment points and interfaces can be printed
  • PA-CF material: high rigidity and load-bearing capacity combined with low weight
  • Iterative adaptation of the design possible - without long delivery times

Result
  • Significantly reduced production time (from several weeks to a few days)
  • Cost benefits for small series and spare parts
  • Functional prototypes for tests in real operation
  • High degree of design freedom for integrated functions in the housing

Conclusion

The TiQ 2 provides the customer with an economical and flexible solution for fixture construction:

  • Time and cost savings for small series and prototypes
  • Fast iteration for design changes
  • Robust and resilient housing for practical use

This increases the customer's efficiency in fixture construction and gives them more flexibility for individual requirements.
